Everybody has those games downloaded on their smartphone. It might just spark a debate of what is the best game out there. For me a personal favorite is Candy Crush. (See Figure 1)

Candy Crush has been around since 2012 and it is still pretty popular in 2019. Candy crush is a mobile gaming app developed by King. The purpose of the app is to get several like color candies matched in a row to then gain high scores. Simple right!? One would think but it actually isn't because I still have not passed level 20 and i've had the app installed on my phone since 2013.

After further researching I came across something very interesting about Candy Crush. The makes hundreds of thousands of dollars daily. Leading the company to be worth 6 Billion. Yes, Billion with a B. All for something so simple. Candy Crush has well over $500 million downloads. (Figure 3) That speaks to how popular the app is with all age ranges.

The app is a hit amongst many age ranges and that is for several reasons. One reason is because the app is so well developed. The app is extremely easy to use enticing kids. The app is colorful attracting the eyes of many. Also the game is easy when first starting but eventually becomes hards and that provides the user with a bit of a challenge. Because who wants to closed to a game? No one. So for many they continue to play until the level is complete. The amount of users that play the game daily is great. I think users return to the game so often because the game offers “Lives” every so often. (Figure 4) So for example if you continuously lose to a hard level you run out of lives and in a certain amount of hours you will be rewarded more. So that provides the gamer with the anticipation of waiting to receive the extra lives so that they are able to play again without having to purchase them. Then you have the gamers that refuse to lose and with actually spend money for lives so they are allowed to continue to play the game. To many games are that serious but to other they are. Because once again, Who likes to lose… No one.

Candy Crush doesn't offer and specific educational benefits besides increasing hand- eye coordination and color identifying skills. That would be good for those in the developing phase. Overall Candy Crush is a great designed app. I am going to play right now! Reference
